Download Telegram
Step-by-Step Account Setup
Download Telegram
Choose your platform from the list above and download the Telegram app. It's completely free — no subscription, no hidden costs. The download is small (under 100MB) and installs in seconds.
Open the App & Enter Your Phone Number
Launch Telegram and select your country. Enter your mobile phone number. This is used for verification only — you can hide it from other users later in privacy settings. Telegram won't spam you or share your number.
Verify with SMS Code
You'll receive a verification code via SMS (sometimes via a Telegram message if you have another device). Enter the code to verify your account. If you don't receive the code within a minute, tap 'Resend Code' or try the phone call option.
Set Your Display Name
Enter your first name (required) and optionally a last name. You can also set a username (@yourname) which lets people find you without sharing your phone number. You can add a profile photo now or later.
Ready — Connect to OpenZulu
Telegram is set up. Now go back to the OpenZulu get-started page and click 'Pair Your Account' to connect your Telegram with your OpenZulu account.
Privacy Tips (Recommended)
Hide Your Phone Number
Go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Phone Number. Set 'Who can see my phone number' to 'Nobody'. This keeps your number private from other Telegram users, including bots.
Enable Two-Factor Authentication
Go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Two-Step Verification. Set a password that will be required in addition to the SMS code when logging in from a new device.
Set a Username
Go to Settings > Username. Setting a username (@yourname) lets people contact you without knowing your phone number. It's optional but recommended.
